Our conference theme for 2025 was the two battles fought at Bull Run / Manassas, so it is fitting that we close out the year by publishing a talk about the last casualty of the second battle, Union general Fitz John Porter. Following the union defeat, Porter was put on trial for his actions at the battle. In his talk given to the UK Round Table in June, historian and former lawyer Kevin C. Donovan looks at Porter's court martial was treated from a legal perspective and concludes that he was the victim of Union politics.
